John C. Sieverdes, PhD

Dr. John Sieverdes has a diverse background as a degreed engineer that focused on human factors and ergonomics with seven years’ experience in private industry. He has a Ph.D. in Exercise Science with a focus as a behavioral scientist on chronic disease in clinical settings. He trained with leading physical activity epidemiologists and completed post-doctoral work involving mobile health (mHealth) technologies with the Technology Center for Healthy Lifestyles at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in the United States.
Dr. Sieverdes is an Assistant Professor of Exercise Science at the College of Charleston and affiliate faculty with the Division of Transplantation, Department of Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. His research focus is on mHealth education and measurement technologies to improve patient management of medical regimes and improve lifestyle habits to improve cardiovascular health, reduce frailty, and improve quality of life. Specific projects involve the development of new protocols for frailty measures in chronic kidney disease, post-transplant patients and geriatric populations. As an educator, Dr. Sieverdes teaches courses in Advanced Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, and Healthy Aging.
