Cees Hesp, MA

mHealth Research Labs, PharmAccess Foundation, Netherlands

Cees Hesp heads the mHealth Research Labs at Pharm Access Foundation, a Dutch NGO dedicated to improving access to quality healthcare in Sub Saharan Africa. The lab started in Nairobi, Kenya, in April 2013, and is now setting up branches in Namibia, Nigeria, and Tanzania. Working with real-life test markets, the lab designs and validates sustainable business models for mHealth interventions.

Cees has over 25 years of experience in the software industry, particularly in internet and mobile technology startups. In 1998 he was a finalist in the New Venture Business Plan competition, an initiative of McKinsey and Company. This qualification won him entrance into the Twinning (startup) initiative by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Baan Silicon Polder Fund. He holds an MA in English Linguistics from the Free University of Amsterdam, where he graduated Cum Laude.
